I’m John and yes, I am a full-time work from home dad.
This is just a pic from when I started adulting, and not the job that’s paying my rent, although I do miss me some housing allowance.
First of all, I don’t fit the look of a successful online businessman, especially after my days as an infantryman and secondly, I don’t live the life of one and only because I choose not to.
Being a dad and most especially a parent of 4, (all under the age of 8) kind of dictates how I live my life for now, until they are old enough to live on their own, which I have no problem with.
So even if I’m not showing pics of my old party life and some Lamborghini, I think that God has blessed me with kids that can point me in the right direction like they already have.
My road to success was not the easiest and if you ask any other successful entrepreneur they would probably tell you the same thing.
I get asked time and time again about what I do and how I’m able to do whatever I want, so I figured I’d do it in a nice little blog post, since that’s really a part of what I do and who I am.
So let me walk you through the life of John Cruz and you will see exactly how my path to online success went.
We all have our stories and this is mine.
My Normal Start
One thing I have learned from the man who didn’t tell me what to do but actually showed me, is to always remember where you came from.
I come from a somewhat middle class family of 9 with a stay at home mom always there but a dad that worked a regular 9-5 that payed extremely well.
Too well that even in the 90’s his one income alone and all those kids were still not enough to put us on welfare or any type of government assistance.
That’s why I say somewhat middle class, as we weren’t qualified for any assistance, yet we lived like we were simply because all our money went to food!
With no family members being in business, it was pretty clear that I was on my way to working at some civil service job or something along the normal path and that’s actually where it went.
I, State Your Name
Right out of high school, I went right into the military and boy was that the wrong time.
Upon completion of basic training, my inexperienced at life behind went straight to the wonderful country of Iraq to fight the war on terror in 2003 and again in 2005.
Not the best way to start a young adult life but I really wouldn’t have it any other way.
There was more than just suffering and being without family as I’ve learned a lot being in a country that is nothing like where we live.
Aside from my job, I got the opportunity to get involved with a different culture and lifestyle that has taught me so much about appreciation and humbleness.
I fell in love with the children and got to meet so many regular people that wanted a better life.
The kid in the picture is “Ali” and I made it a point to visit his house every time we went on a patrol in his neighborhood.
Mind you, this is before the iPhone and Facebook was even created, so that pic right there is definitely one that I will always cherish.
I also left the caption (Samsung digital camera) as that was what I had at the time.
Pretty cool huh?
Civil Service Here I Come
After serving my time, I got out of the Army and took the first job I could find, which was a messenger clerk for the government’s retirement fund.
Probably the most fun job I’ve ever had but the pay was just not cutting it, not to mention my attempt at getting a college degree.
After sitting down and having a meeting with myself and did a little math.
If I stayed at that job for 20+ years I would still be getting paid less than $20/hour and I would also need to work at least 30 years just to get 85% of that when I retired.
That same exact day was when I put in my two weeks notice and my boss was confused.
I simply said that if I stayed there any longer, I would continue to be comfortable and I would literally work for the rest of my life.
I Broke Out of My Comfort Zone
Quitting my day job was the biggest decision I’ve ever made in my life and it was something that needed to be done or I will never do anything I wanted to do.
So I quit there and within a month’s time, opened up a bar with a newfound business partner and the rest was history.
Well, not really.
You would think that owning a business is all you have to do but this is really a part of my life where I took on the most stressful obstacle that I could think of.
Not even my first deployment could compare to what I had to deal with when I was running that bar.
Without a full liquor license, I could only serve beer and wine, which led to us shutting the doors in only a year’s time.
How that works, I really don’t know.
Rough times but even bigger lessons and another negative I saw as a positive as this is what led me to my current “job”, which of course wasn’t all fine and dandy either.
Welcome to the World of Making Money Online
After a failed attempt at running a bar, I turned to the internet to see how all these people were making thousands of dollars from.
Thanks to a fella on a late night infomercial that did nothing but take the 50 bucks that I didn’t have to spend!
After falling for a couple more scams, that’s when I finally came across a program called the Wealthy Affiliate, which I had a great feeling about.
Without the get rich mentality in play, I decided to follow the training and advice from the top earners of the company and this time, the rest was really history.
Success Can’t Happen With Negativity
So before I found any type of success online, I had to deal with everyone and their “expert advice” on how I should go back to college or how I need to call my boss and get my job back.
Rather than listening to anyone, I continued my journey (pissed) but driven and wouldn’t let anyone or anything stop me from doing what I wanted to do.
I went 6 months of building out this site that they claimed would make me money and finally made my first $1.
To anyone who knew me, that was pathetic.
To me, that was the best day of my life (besides my kid’s birth, that time I found $20 on the ground, and that other time that I can’t remember).
By making that $1, it only showed me that this whole business model did actually work.
Fast forward a year later, and I was making more money than I ever thought possible.
I moved 3 times since I started this business and I was only doing it for the same amount of time.
From a one bedroom apartment (with 3 kids), to a 2 bedroom house (with 4 kids), to now living in a 3 bedroom condo with sweet amenities like a pool, daily grounds keeping, and a nice view of the ocean.
Not to mention the 2 invitations I got to meet with other successful online entrepreneurs in Las Vegas, you really can’t beat the investment I made.
Here are some pics of our view from the MGM Skyloft we were in as well as myself and the owner of the same program that got me started making money online.
How I Did it
When people ask me what I do, I still don’t know where to start.
The explanation gets kind of redundant and to be honest, I really don’t like doing it.
Want to know why?
Well, the same people asking me what I do are the same people that thought I couldn’t do it.
People only know you when you’re successful (financially) but try to tell you what to do when you’re at the bottom laying bricks.
Aside from the financial nonsense that is very much needed to supply one’s lifestyle, my idea of success is spending more time with my family and doing so on my terms.
No one to boss you around and setting a working schedule to accomplish things at any place with an internet connection.
So my steps to success was really simple.
- Break out of my comfort zone (quit my j-o-b)
- Fight off negative people
- Get with the program
You see guys, although I can tell you that the internet is where the money’s at, you also need to understand that there are many snakes out there that are ready to take your money, so don’t fall for just anything.
Through my experience, I have managed to find ONLY ONE program that actually works.
It does require work and a small investment but the end result is definitely worth it.
What’s it called?
If you want to learn more on how their overall business model works, you can read more here as I have broken it down into the most simplest way possible.
That’s what works and what I recommend you do if you want to break free.
I hope this post has inspired you to not just realize that there’s more to life than you think but also to take some type of action and make it happen.
If you can forget about what everyone else thinks, you, my friend will find success.
Thanks for reading and never forget where you came from.
