How To Build A Tire Swing (3 Chains)

Thanks to the dads at Dan330, we have a very short and straight to the point video that will show you how to build a tire swing.

Remember now, there are two types of tire swings. One with just a rope and a tire and then you have the one with 3 chains and a tire.

For this post, we are going to show you how to build a tire swing with the 3 chains. This tire swing is designed for about two kids (maybe 3), so it might be a little better if you have more than one child.

  • A tree
  • 1 tire
  • Drill with 1/2″ drill bit
  • 3 U bolts
  • Some kids

Although this video is very simple and doesn’t get too much into detail, it gets the job done. I liked it because they added a little humor to it, so that’s always a good thing.

Before You Swing

Bigger is not always better and it is definitely the case here. I know you think that using a bigger tire would be better, but that is not so much the case here.

Your best bet would be using a smaller tire. I don’t mean go and get a wheelbarrow tire now, so don’t go doing that either.

Make sure you drill holes on the bottom of the tire. This is very important for the water to drain and you don’t want to have to do this once the tire is hanging from the tree.

Don’t hang it too high. Remember guys, this is for kids, so you make sure it is low enough for them to get on. Most of you will be using your height as a measuring too, but that’s not going to work.

Try to hang the tire on branches furthest away from the tree. Of course you want to use the strongest branches possible, but you also don’t want the kids to be hitting the tree while they swing.

Please supervise your children. Not just with this tire swing, but with everything else. Kids will do things you would never imagine in the blink of an eye.

Get your Swing on

This is something that can be done in no time and it doesn’t require an arm and a leg. Not only is is a cheap investment, but I know your kids will absolutely love it.

I hope this little tutorial will help you give your kids something else to look forward to and not just video games and watching tv all day.

Just a stay at home dad, that loves spending time with his family. I love my gadgets, being in style, and most especially being a parent. Although I like having fun, I am one that isn’t looking to splurge, although I can get carried away.
